Shiv Sena (UBT) has launched a sharp attack on the Maharashtra government over the controversy surrounding the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), warning that growing anger among competitive examination aspirants could have serious political consequences if their concerns are ignored.
In an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction referred to protests by thousands of aspirants in Pune, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati. The protesters are demanding the removal of MPSC leadership, an impartial investigation into the alleged examination paper leak and complete transparency in competitive examinations.
The editorial alleged systemic corruption within the commission, citing the reported leak during the MPSC Drug Inspector recruitment examination. It claimed that the alleged sale of government posts for large sums was destroying the prospects of deserving and hardworking candidates.
The Thackeray camp also criticised the police response, alleging that while lower-level operatives were being arrested, the masterminds and politically connected figures allegedly backing the paper-leak network remained untouched.
Drawing a parallel between political defections and institutional failures, the editorial said those in the commission were “leaking exam papers”, while those in government were “leaking political parties, MLAs, and corporators”.
It also criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state government over what it described as their failure to prevent examination leaks and protect the careers of young aspirants.
The editorial accused ministers of remaining in offices and engaging with contractors instead of meeting protesting students. It contrasted this with the approach attributed to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray during the Shiv Shahi period, when ministers were expected to meet protesters and address public grievances.
Shiv Sena (UBT) demanded the immediate arrest of all those allegedly involved in the paper-leak racket, including its masterminds, and warned the government against underestimating the growing anger among students.
