Actors Abhishek Banerjee and Divyenndu, known for their popular characters Compounder and Munna Bhaiyya, respectively, have reunited in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’. As the film continues its successful theatrical run, Abhishek looked back on his 23-year friendship with Divyenndu, tracing their journey from college days to the big screen.
Abhishek recalled that Divyenndu was his senior at Kirori Mal College and credited him with teaching him more about acting than any classroom could.
Sharing a photograph on social media, Abhishek wrote, “Bhaukaling since 2003,” before recalling their time with the Players theatre group and their shared dream of becoming actors.
He described Divyenndu as the friend and mentor he knew long before audiences came to know him as Munna Bhaiyya, adding that the two were partners in crime during their college years.
Reflecting on their reunion on screen, Abhishek wrote that life had brought them together again two decades later through ‘Mirzapur’, calling their journey “truly magical” and “almost a tale of fiction”.
Divyenndu responded to the post with a warm message, writing that he believed they were “doing decently well” and adding “For Life”.
Released in cinemas on September 4, ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ has reportedly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.
Directed by Gurmeet Singh, the film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment.
The cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Harshita Gaur, reprising their respective characters from the ‘Mirzapur’ universe.
