The makers of ‘Lust Stories 3’ on Wednesday unveiled the trailer of the upcoming anthology, bringing together filmmakers Vishal Bhardwaj, Shakun Batra, Vikramaditya Motwane and Kiran Rao for four distinct stories exploring love, desire and complicated relationships.
The anthology features an ensemble cast including Radhika Apte, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Madan, Sana Thampi, Vijay Varma, Abhishek Banerjee, Siddharth, Ali Fazal and Gurfateh Pirzada.
The trailer offers glimpses of four narratives, each with its own tone and rhythm, while collectively examining what people desire, what they hold back and how those impulses influence relationships. The stories blend humour and chemistry with vulnerability and introspection.
Vishal Bhardwaj said he was fascinated by the connection between desire and imagination, particularly the stories people tell themselves and those they hesitate to express.
“There’s humour, mischief and emotion in that journey, but also questions about identity, expression and who gets to tell stories about desire,” Bhardwaj said, adding that the project offered an exciting creative space to explore these themes.
He described working alongside the three other filmmakers as a “wonderful creative experience” and said Netflix gave them the freedom to tell their stories in their own individual styles.
Motwane said he was drawn to exploring how everyday comfort can intersect with the desire for something unexpected, while Kiran Rao focused on how attraction can quickly develop into complicated choices and consequences.
Shakun Batra said he was interested in relationships where people struggle to understand their own emotions, with affection, insecurity, allure and frustration existing simultaneously.
‘Lust Stories 3’ premieres on Netflix on September 18.
