Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Aman Arora on Tuesday said the Bhagwant Mann-led government stands firmly with its employees and is committed to considering and fulfilling every legitimate demand through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Calling the three crore Punjabis and government employees part of the same family, Arora appealed to employee organisations to end their ongoing strike and resume duties to ensure that the public does not face inconvenience.
“For us, the three crore Punjabis are one family, and our employees are an equally important part of this family. We understand their concerns and respect their contribution to Punjab. Our government is committed to considering every legitimate demand of our employees and working sincerely towards resolving their issues,” he said.
Arora said the government had already taken steps to address employees’ concerns. He pointed out that for around 85,000 employees recruited after July 17, 2020, the government had decided to provide Dearness Allowance (DA) at 60 per cent, bringing it at par with the Central Government rate.
The Minister said the broader issue concerning DA and arrears is pending before the Supreme Court and that the state government would abide by the apex court’s decision.
“Our doors remain open for dialogue with our employees. We believe that every genuine concern can be resolved through mutual understanding,” he said.
Describing employees as the backbone of Punjab’s governance and development, Arora said the government and its employees were on the same side and shared the responsibility of serving the people of the state.
He urged employees to return to work and said outstanding issues could be resolved without putting the public to inconvenience.
