Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar on Friday took a swipe at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav over reports of his closed-door meeting with Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leader Ashutosh Ranka in Lucknow.
In a post on X, Rajbhar used the term “cockroaches” to mock the alleged meeting and suggested that the SP was seeking support from the outfit. He also questioned Akhilesh’s political strategy, making pointed references to the Samajwadi Party’s traditional support base and its founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav.
Rajbhar further alleged that Akhilesh was relying on wealthy and overseas-linked political circles while cautioning against involving young Yadav and backward Muslim voters in what he described as divisive politics.
The remarks came after reports surfaced about the meeting between Akhilesh and Ranka. However, the Samajwadi Party rejected the suggestion that the meeting was aimed at political negotiations.
SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand said CJP leaders had met Akhilesh only to express gratitude for the party’s support for youth protests. He said the SP had backed the protesters’ demands from the streets to the Assembly and that Akhilesh had continued to stand with them.
Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput, reacting to the meeting, said political leaders meeting one another was not illegal and described such interactions as part of political activity.
The reported meeting comes amid political activity in Uttar Pradesh, with parties and smaller groups exploring possible alignments and support ahead of future electoral contests.
