Central and Delhi government offices will remain closed on September 11 to minimise public inconvenience on roads during the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, officials said on Thursday.
The holiday for Delhi government offices had already been announced, while the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has now issued an official circular declaring a holiday for Central government offices on the same day.
The decision comes amid extensive security and logistical arrangements, including the movement of motorcades linked to the international summit.
The Delhi Traffic Police has been conducting rehearsals ahead of the BRICS events scheduled from September 11 to 13. As part of its traffic management plan, diversions have been planned at 22 points, with regulated movement on more than 35 roads.
On Wednesday, traffic restrictions and diversions were enforced between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. during a motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Business Forum and the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
September 12 and 13, being Saturday and Sunday, are expected to pose relatively fewer challenges for traffic managers handling summit-related arrangements.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police is using drones for technology-driven traffic management and real-time aerial monitoring of critical stretches, Additional Commissioner of Police Vijayanta Goyal Arya said.
Drone surveillance is being carried out over major intersections, arterial roads and congestion-prone corridors to assess traffic conditions, identify bottlenecks and enable timely intervention.
Special attention is being given to inter-state border points and locations witnessing vehicle pile-ups. Drone inputs help officials assess the length and spread of queues, identify choke points and plan on-ground regulation and dispersal strategies.
Aerial monitoring is also being conducted around major transit hubs, including Inter-State Bus Terminals, New Delhi Railway Station and other important railway stations, where heavy vehicular and passenger movement is frequently witnessed.
The drones will also be deployed ahead of and during large gatherings and processions to assess traffic volumes, anticipate congestion and facilitate advance planning for diversions, deployment and other traffic regulation measures.
