The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered CG Foods India Pvt Ltd to stop production of Veg Bhujia Namkeen after an inspection at its manufacturing unit in Roopangarh, Ajmer, Rajasthan, found alleged food safety and hygiene violations.
According to the food regulator, the inspection uncovered the reprocessing of floor-collected and broken noodles into bhujia products without heat treatment, along with the use of predated packaging.
The FSSAI said it seized 32,107.2 kg of stock from the premises, including loose broken noodles. It also detained 1,925 boxes of expired finished goods and initiated legal proceedings against the Food Business Operator (FBO).
The inspection further found that the company was manufacturing “Wai-Wai MaMa” and “Wai-Wai Mama Punte” bhujia variants without the required licence, allegedly in violation of Section 31(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Several hygiene and documentation deficiencies were also detected, including inadequate pest-control records and other shortcomings related to food hygiene and safety.
The regulator collected samples of loose noodle material, both Veg Bhujia products, used cooking oil from the frying line and “Wai-Wai Ready to Eat Noodles” for laboratory analysis.
The FSSAI has directed CG Foods India to discontinue production of Veg Bhujia Namkeen products until the required approvals and corrective measures are in place.
“Further regulatory action as applicable will be taken on the basis of laboratory analysis and inspection findings in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006,” the regulator said.
In a separate enforcement action in Bengaluru, Karnataka, the FSSAI also proceeded against British Lifesciences Private Limited after an inspection found misbranded and expired infant food products.
The regulator said a substantial quantity of misbranded infant food was seized and legal proceedings were initiated against the company as part of an enforcement drive focused on the safety and regulatory compliance of infant food products meant for babies and young children.
