‘Shameful day for country’: CJP seeks FIR against man who admits to grievously injuring protestor’s dad in viral video

New Delhi, September 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday marched to the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi, demanding registration of an FIR under stringent provisions and the arrest of a man who allegedly admitted in a viral video to assaulting the father of a student protester during the Jantar Mantar demonstration.

CJP leaders alleged that the man claimed in the video that he was released by Delhi Police because of his “political connections”. The outfit accused the police of shielding the alleged accused and demanded immediate action.

Speaking to reporters, CJP co-convener Saurav Das said a minor student, Nishu, had participated in the Jantar Mantar protest from the beginning and was accompanied by her father, Sanjay.

Das alleged that members of a criminal group entered the protest site and attacked Sanjay, striking his head with a metal bracelet. He said an initial FIR had been registered but alleged that police did not add charges such as attempt to murder or relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act despite the family’s Dalit background.

According to Das, a recently circulated podcast video features the alleged attacker claiming responsibility for the assault and making threatening remarks against Nishu. Das questioned why the accused was allegedly not kept in custody despite the claims made in the video.

“Police are sheltering the accused, which is not acceptable to us,” Das said, adding that the family had submitted videos and other material to the authorities.

He also questioned police claims that around 2,800 “hardened criminals” were present during the protest and asked why stronger action had not been taken against them.

CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka alleged that the man had openly claimed to have attacked Sanjay and that political influence had prevented action against him.

“Today is a shameful day for the country and democracy where goons are openly claiming that they have attempted to kill someone and still no action is being taken against them because they are politically connected,” Ranka said.

The CJP demanded identification and arrest of those allegedly involved under stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The party said Friday’s visit was aimed at seeking an explanation from senior police officials and that it would decide its next course of action based on the response from the authorities.
