The Miri-Piri Khalsa March, which began from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, resumed its second phase on Thursday after a night halt at Gurdwara Sri Katalgarh Sahib in Sri Chamkaur Sahib. The march proceeded towards its next destination, Gurdwara Sri Bhatha Sahib in Ropar, amid traditional Sikh religious observances and the enthusiastic participation of the sangat.
Before the march resumed, a religious congregation was organised where Giani Keval Singh, Granthi Singh at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, shared Sikh history with the sangat and urged devotees to lead their lives according to Gurmat principles.
Addressing the gathering, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj said Sri Chamkaur Sahib was a sacred land that had witnessed an unparalleled example of Sikh bravery, faith and sacrifice. He recalled that it was here that the 10th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, sent his Sahibzadas into battle and honoured their martyrdom with Jaikare.
He said Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s blessings inspired the 40 Sikhs at Chamkaur Sahib to confront a vastly larger Mughal force. Giani Gargajj said today’s youth should draw inspiration from this historic land and remain connected with Sikh heritage.
He said the Miri-Piri Khalsa March was aimed not only at propagating Sikh principles but also at reconnecting youth who were drifting away from Sikhi with their heritage. He stressed that even the greatest challenges could be overcome when faith in the Guru remained firm and resolve was unwavering.
Giani Gargajj further urged Sikhs to remain loyal to Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Panth and Sri Akal Takht Sahib and encouraged the sangat to stay connected with Gurbani and Sikh identity.
At various points along the route, devotees warmly welcomed the Khalsa March and paid their respects to Guru Sahib. Decorative gates were erected and langars serving different traditional dishes were organised. A bus carrying historical weapons associated with the Sikh Gurus, travelling with the march, also drew considerable enthusiasm among the sangat.
Among those present were SGPC executive member Bibi Harjinder Kaur, members S. Ajmer Singh Khera and S. Paramjit Singh Lakhewal, constituency in-charge S. Manmohan Singh Sandhu, SGPC Additional Secretary S. Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, S. Inderjit Singh Happy, Baba Satnam Singh, Baba Gurmel Singh, Baba Baldev Singh Mustafapur, Baba Kulwinder Singh, S. Amritpal Singh Raipur, Head Granthi Bhai Jasbir Singh, Head Pracharak Bhai Jagdev Singh, Bhai Baldev Singh Mohali, In-charge S. Gurbhag Singh, S. Gurwinder Singh Mohali, Pracharak Bhai Jeevanjit Singh, Bhai Lakhwinder Singh and Bhai Sarbjit Singh, besides a large number of devotees.
