The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has started langar and relief services for people affected by floods in Nepal following the natural disaster, as part of its humanitarian efforts.
As per the directions of SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, a delegation has been stationed in Nepal for the past few days to coordinate the relief efforts. The delegation comprises SGPC members Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta and Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Advocate Bhagwant Singh Siyalka and Deputy Secretary S. Azad Deep Singh.
Sharing details from Nepal, Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal said the SGPC sent the first truck carrying langar supplies to the flood-affected areas on Thursday. He said efforts would also be made in the coming days to deliver relief material directly to families affected by the floods.
Grewal said the SGPC delegation had earlier held discussions with the Nepalese government and suggested that organisations and individuals travelling to Nepal for humanitarian assistance should be permitted to bring relief material across the border. The Nepalese government subsequently approved the proposal, following which the langar service for flood victims was initiated.
The SGPC delegation and volunteers visiting the affected areas were thanked by local residents, who said the langar and relief supplies were providing significant support during the difficult situation caused by the natural disaster.
The relief efforts are also receiving support from members of the Sikh community settled in Nepal, including S. Pritam Singh, S. Angad Singh and S. Harpal Singh Pali, as well as members of the local Gurdwara committee.
