Punjab Police on Thursday conducted 570 raids across the state as part of the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, arresting 249 persons and recovering three weapons from locations linked to gangster associates.
The operation marked the 226th day of the campaign, launched by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the objective of making Punjab a gangster-free state. Police teams from all districts have been conducting coordinated operations with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
With Thursday’s arrests, the total number of persons arrested under the campaign has reached 67,639. Preventive action was also taken against 294 individuals, while 17 Proclaimed Offenders were arrested during the day’s operation.
Punjab Police has appealed to people to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and other criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. Informants can share information anonymously.
Meanwhile, the police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, on its 551st day. Police teams arrested 131 alleged drug smugglers and recovered 2.7 kg of heroin, 470 grams of opium, 1,062 intoxicant pills and Rs 7,120 in drug money.
With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested during the 551-day campaign has risen to 76,982.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 13 persons on Thursday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
