A property dealer was shot dead by three unidentified assailants outside a gym in Narela in north Delhi on Thursday morning, police officials said.
The deceased was identified as Pramod Dahiya, a resident of Haryana’s Sonipat district.
According to officials, the incident took place around 7 a.m. when the assailants allegedly arrived on a scooter and opened fire at Dahiya outside the gym. They fled the spot immediately after the shooting.
Police suspect that the killing may be linked to an extortion attempt. Teams have been formed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder and identify those responsible.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events. Dahiya’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
The Narela killing comes days after the murder of Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan, who was shot dead outside a gym in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, on August 26. Investigators suspect that Baliyan’s killing was linked to a gang rivalry allegedly triggered by one of his songs.
The Gogi gang is suspected of having orchestrated the Baliyan murder, according to the investigation. On August 31, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, along with local police, killed two alleged accused, identified as Sumit and Mohit, in an encounter. Both were residents of Sonipat in Haryana and had previous criminal records.
Following the encounter, Shamli Police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of two other suspected shooters, Satyam Kadyan and Aryan Sandhu, who remain absconding.
The investigation has also identified Rakesh alias Pappu as an alleged mastermind of the conspiracy. He is currently lodged in Karnal Jail in Haryana.
