Patna, August 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A “Student Justice Satyagraha” began at the Gardanibagh protest site in Patna on Tuesday, with students raising demands related to teacher recruitment and various government competitive examinations.
Led by student leader Dilip Kumar, the protest is primarily seeking the immediate release of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) TRE-4 recruitment advertisement. The protesters have also demanded that the teacher recruitment examination be conducted through a single-stage process.
Dilip Kumar said students would hold a peaceful sit-in at Gardanibagh for three days. If the TRE-4 advertisement is not issued during this period, he said an indefinite hunger strike would begin on August 21.
The agitation also covers demands concerning Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) examinations, Sub-Inspector and Constable recruitment and the AEDO post. Students have sought the announcement of dates for pending examinations and greater transparency in recruitment procedures.
Among their key demands are providing candidates with carbon copies of their OMR answer sheets, publishing answer keys after examinations and making candidates’ marks and cut-off scores public when results are declared.
The protesters have also demanded that Hindi-medium candidates should not face discrimination in BPSC Civil Services examinations. They have called for impartial investigations into alleged paper leaks and other examination irregularities, along with strict action against those found responsible.
Kumar also sought the resignation of the Education Minister, alleging that the government had failed to honour its earlier assurance that the TRE-4 recruitment advertisement would be issued in July.
Appealing to students across Bihar, Kumar urged aspirants to gather at Gardanibagh in large numbers, calling on them to leave their rooms, libraries, hostels, lodges and coaching centres and join the protest.
He said the movement was not affiliated with any particular political party or individual candidate and was instead a collective struggle over issues affecting Bihar’s students and youth.
Kumar further said the platform would remain student-led, with the protesters deciding through consultations whether political leaders or representatives of coaching institutes would be allowed to address the gathering.
At the same time, he appealed to political parties and leaders to extend support to the students’ demands.
