Actor Annu Kapoor once recalled a payment mix-up during the making of Mashaal, when a cheque issued in the name of actor Anil Kapoor was mistakenly handed to him.
An old video of Annu Kapoor appearing on one of Kapil Sharma’s shows has resurfaced online, in which the veteran actor narrated the unusual incident involving the late filmmaker Yash Chopra’s production office.
Recalling his remuneration for the film, Annu said his full-and-final payment was supposed to be Rs 4,000. However, when he went to collect the payment, he was handed a cheque for Rs 10,000 bearing Anil Kapoor’s name.
“I thought, how did a beggar like me get a miracle in my life?” Annu recalled, saying he initially believed that Yash Chopra had taken pity on him and decided to pay him more.
According to Annu, the confusion came to light when Boney Kapoor later visited the office to collect his brother Anil Kapoor’s payment. The accountant reportedly informed him that the Rs 10,000 cheque had already been issued.
Boney Kapoor was told that someone from Delhi had collected the cheque, prompting him to investigate further. Annu recalled that Boney eventually approached him and pointed out that the cheque belonged to his brother, Anil Kapoor.
“I said, ‘Take it’. I was so honest,” Annu recalled.
The actor also spoke about the differences in their professional standing at the time, noting that Anil Kapoor was already playing leading roles while Annu was still establishing himself in the industry.
Annu Kapoor has enjoyed a long career across Hindi cinema, television, theatre and radio. He has appeared in films including Utsav, Mr. India, Vicky Donor, Jolly LLB 2 and Dream Girl, besides hosting the popular musical television show Antakshari.
