FBI Data Records 189 Anti-Sikh, 32 Anti-Hindu Hate Crime Offences in US in 2025

Washington, August 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US law enforcement agencies recorded 189 anti-Sikh and 32 anti-Hindu hate crime offences in 2025, according to newly released FBI data, which does not provide a separate national count for crimes targeting Indian Americans.

The figures are based on the FBI’s annual hate crime statistics, which categorise offences according to religious, racial, ethnic and other forms of bias.

Law enforcement agencies reported 2,703 single-bias religious hate crime offences in 2025. Anti-Sikh bias accounted for 7 per cent, or approximately 189 offences, while anti-Hindu bias represented 1.2 per cent, or about 32 offences.

Anti-Jewish bias constituted the largest share at 62.3 per cent, followed by anti-Islamic or anti-Muslim bias at 9.6 per cent and anti-Sikh bias at 7 per cent.

The FBI also recorded victims separately. Of the 2,798 victims of anti-religious hate crimes, about 193, or 6.9 per cent, were victims of anti-Sikh bias. Anti-Hindu bias accounted for approximately 34 victims, or 1.2 per cent.

The number of offences and victims can differ because a single incident may involve multiple offences or affect more than one person.

The FBI does not classify Indian Americans as a separate racial or ethnic category. Depending on the circumstances and how local authorities classified an offence, Indian-origin victims could be included under anti-Asian, anti-Hindu, anti-Sikh or other bias categories. Consequently, the national summary does not establish how many Indian Americans were victims of hate crimes in 2025.

The FBI recorded 7,200 single-bias offences motivated by race, ethnicity or ancestry. Anti-Asian bias accounted for 5.8 per cent, or approximately 418 offences. Of 7,427 victims in this category, about 438, or 5.9 per cent, were targeted because of anti-Asian bias. The data does not further break down these figures by national origin.

Overall, US agencies reported 10,881 hate crime incidents involving 13,026 offences in 2025. These incidents involved 13,438 victims and 9,509 known offenders.

Reported incidents declined from 11,679 in 2024 to 10,881 in 2025, a fall of about 6.8 per cent. Offences declined from 13,683 to 13,026, while victims fell from 14,243 to 13,438.

Using a separate dataset covering agencies that provided at least six comparable months of data in both years, the FBI calculated a 7 per cent decline in incidents, from 11,404 in 2024 to 10,606 in 2025.

The published national summary does not provide separate 2024 figures for anti-Sikh, anti-Hindu or anti-Asian offences, preventing a direct year-on-year comparison for these communities.

Of 12,567 single-bias offences recorded in 2025, 57.3 per cent involved race, ethnicity or ancestry. Religious bias accounted for 21.5 per cent, while sexual-orientation bias represented 14.6 per cent.

About 66.6 per cent of all hate crime offences were crimes against people, while 31.5 per cent involved property and 1.9 per cent were classified as crimes against society. Among offences against people, intimidation accounted for 43.1 per cent and simple assault for 35.8 per cent. Destruction, damage or vandalism constituted 73.3 per cent of hate crimes against property.

The FBI’s hate crime data collection received information from 16,791 law enforcement agencies covering 95.3 per cent of the US population. Of these, 3,067 agencies reported at least one hate crime incident during the year.
