Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday release former President Ram Nath Kovind’s autobiography, Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles, at an event in New Delhi.
The book will be released at 9:30 a.m. at Vigyan Bhavan, where the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the event will celebrate Kovind’s life and public service. The autobiography traces his journey from his early years and personal struggles to his distinguished public career and tenure as the 14th President of India.
The book also reflects on the values, experiences and circumstances that shaped Kovind’s approach to public service.
Modi had announced the event on X, writing that he would participate in the programme marking the release of the book, which he described as an account of Kovind’s “inspiring life and efforts to serve society”.
Born on October 1, 1945, in Paraunkh village of Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat district, Kovind joined the BJP in 1991. He later served as president of the BJP Dalit Morcha from 1998 to 2002 and also headed the All-India Koli Samaj.
Kovind was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in April 1994 and served two consecutive terms until March 2006, completing 12 years in the Upper House. He unsuccessfully contested the Ghatampur Assembly constituency after joining the BJP and later lost the 2007 Bhognipur Assembly election on a BJP ticket.
Before becoming President, Kovind served as Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. He was elected President in 2017 and served until 2022.
He was the first person from Uttar Pradesh and the first BJP leader to occupy the country’s highest constitutional office.
