Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and Olympic gold medallist Zheng Qinwen headline the entry list for the qualifying competition of this year’s US Open, with the preliminary rounds set to begin on August 24 at Flushing Meadows.
Andreescu, who created history by winning the 2019 US Open on her main-draw debut, returns to the qualifying draw for the first time since 2018 after battling a series of injuries in recent years. The Canadian, currently ranked World No. 179, has shown encouraging form in 2026 by winning two World Tennis titles, reaching the Austin WTA 125 final in March and qualifying for Wimbledon.
Joining her is former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, who captured the Melbourne title in 2020. The American, now ranked No. 118, will look to rediscover her best form after posting a modest 5-19 record this season.
China’s Zheng Qinwen, the 2024 Australian Open runner-up and Olympic champion, will also compete in qualifying after missing several months following elbow surgery. Ranked No. 125, Zheng has compiled an 11-13 record since returning to the tour and will appear in Grand Slam qualifying for only the second time in her career.
One of the most intriguing names on the list is 16-year-old Kristina Liutova, who recently became the first player born in 2010 to win a WTA title after claiming victory in Memphis on her tour-level debut. She is set to make her Grand Slam qualifying debut.
Also featuring in the qualifying field are 2026 WTA champion Robin Montgomery, former NCAA standout Darja Vidmanova, Ukrainian youngster Veronika Podrez, and former French Open semifinalists Nadia Podoroska and Tamara Zidansek.
With several former Grand Slam champions, rising stars and comeback stories in the draw, the US Open qualifying tournament promises to be one of the most competitive in recent years.
