Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in coordination with its Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) and central agencies, has secured the deportation of fugitive gangster Jobanjit Singh, alias Joban Billa, from Jakarta, Indonesia, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday.
The accused was detained by Indonesian authorities on July 20 and was subsequently deported to India. Punjab Police took him into custody at Mumbai airport and is bringing him to Punjab for further investigation.
DGP Yadav said the deportation marked the successful culmination of Operation Nomad Hunt, a six-month intelligence-led international operation involving sustained surveillance, strategic intelligence gathering and coordination with national and international agencies.
According to police, Joban Billa is wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, and offences under the NDPS Act and Arms Act. He allegedly fled India on January 9, 2025, using a passport obtained with forged identity documents of a Gorakhpur resident. The passport had been issued from Lucknow on March 8, 2024.
Police said the accused had been evading arrest by moving across multiple countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Georgia and Indonesia. A Red Corner Notice was issued against him, and Punjab Police shared intelligence on his forged passport and movements with central agencies while also initiating five INTERPOL references.
Additional Director General of Police (AGTF) Promod Ban said Joban Billa is wanted in four murder cases in Punjab, including the killings of Jarnail Singh in Amritsar’s Sathiala village (2023), Deepu Ajnala (2024), 12-year-old Gursewak Singh (2025) and Vicky Chugh (2025).
Punjab Police said the operation was carried out under the supervision of ADGP Promod Ban and led by Superintendent of Police Bikramjit Singh Brar. The force also highlighted the role of OFTEC, established by the Punjab government to trace and facilitate the extradition of fugitives operating from abroad.
