An FIR has been registered against BJP MLC C.T. Ravi in Karnataka over alleged hate speech made during remarks on the nationwide protests against the NEET examination paper leak.
The Chikkamagaluru Town Police registered the case on Saturday following directions from the Principal Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Chikkamagaluru.
The case has been booked under Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on a complaint filed by Mudassir Pasha, president of Jamia Masjid in Chikkamagaluru.
According to the complaint, Ravi, while addressing a gathering after a protest march organised by the Youth for Nation organisation in Chikkamagaluru, allegedly made remarks linking the NEET protests to members of the Muslim community and those opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The complaint alleges that his statements were intended to spread hatred between communities and disturb communal harmony.
The complainant said he came across the remarks on social media and sought legal action against the BJP leader.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Muslim Federation demanded Ravi’s immediate arrest over the alleged remarks. In a statement, the organisation accused him of attempting to communalise the issue of the NEET paper leak and termed his comments inappropriate.
The Federation also urged the Karnataka government to take strict action, alleging that the remarks sought to divert attention from the controversy surrounding examination irregularities.
