UNITED SIKHS Raises Urgent Concerns Over Indiana Regulatory Actions Impacting Immigrant Communities

Indiana, US, March 31, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

UNITED SIKHS, a UN-affiliated international nonprofit organization, is raising urgent concerns regarding recent regulatory actions in Indiana that disproportionately impact immigrant communities.

Despite ongoing engagement with state officials and advocacy efforts to delay implementation, Commercial Drivers License cancellations are scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026 placing hundreds of individuals at immediate risk.

Acting with urgency, UNITED SIKHS requested the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles General Counsel to immediately suspend the implementation of license cancellations to avert widespread and irreparable harm to residents and families.

UNITED SIKHS underscores that the limited timeframe provided by the state to respond and file claims is inadequate and fails to afford affected individuals a meaningful opportunity to seek due process.

Guidance for Affected Individuals

UNITED SIKHS strongly urges individuals who receive a cancellation notice from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) to take the following immediate steps:

  • Request a hearing without delay, in accordance with the instructions provided in the notice
  • File within 18 days of the date of cancellation — this deadline is strictly enforced
  • Raise all applicable claims in the hearing request to preserve legal rights
  • Utilize available guidance and sample templates to ensure accurate and complete filing
  • Failure to act within the prescribed timeframe may result in the loss of driving privileges.

Ongoing Advocacy and Support

UNITED SIKHS remains actively engaged in advocacy efforts, calling for fair and equitable policies, extended response timelines, and safeguards that uphold due process. The organization continues to provide legal guidance, community outreach, and support to those affected.

“We remain committed to ensuring that individuals are informed, supported, and able to exercise their rights,” Bhupinder Kaur added. “Our advocacy will continue until fair and just outcomes are secured.”
