New Delhi, October 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday criticised the Opposition over remarks about “regime change” in India, asserting that the country’s youth should shape its future rather than serve the political ambitions of any individual.

His remarks came a day after senior advocate Prashant Bhushan described the protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar as having evolved into a “fight for regime change”, calling it a democratic right of citizens.

The controversy also follows All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora’s praise for Bangladesh’s Gen Z movement, which she described as an “inspiration” for young people in India. Her remarks drew criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a post on X, Adityanath said that in a democracy, power is secured through the people’s mandate and not through anarchy.

“Those who dream of a regime change in India, modelled after the events in Bangladesh, seek to place tools of anarchy—rather than the torch of nation-building—into the hands of the youth,” he said.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that some elements were attempting to create instability under the pretext of electoral reforms, justice and democracy.

He said India’s democracy was rooted in the trust of its people and could not be destabilised through conspiracies.

“Our youth are meant to shape the future of India, not to serve the hunger for power of any individual,” Adityanath said.

He further claimed that voters had recognised what he described as deceptive political actors and had kept them away from power. Alleging that these elements were now seeking to capture power by creating disorder, he said the country would not allow such a political conspiracy to succeed.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also criticised the Congress and its allies, questioning their commitment to the people’s mandate.

“The intentions of the Congress and its allies are no longer hidden from anyone. Why do those who speak of a regime change in India, on the lines of regime change in Bangladesh, have no faith in the people’s mandate?” Dhami said in a post on X.

Targeting Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Dhami alleged that the Congress leader was seeking an alternative route to power after failing to secure it through democratic means.

“Having failed to attain power through democratic means, the ‘prince’ of the Congress party is now seeking a path to power by fostering anarchy,” he said.

Dhami further asserted that attempts to gain power by questioning constitutional institutions, creating unrest and disrupting India’s development would not succeed.

He also contrasted the period since 2014 with previous Congress-led governments, alleging that the latter had been marked by corruption and plunder. Reiterating the BJP’s position, Dhami said that in a democracy, the route to power was through the people’s votes and not through anarchy.
