Filmmaker-producer Aanand L Rai says his upcoming romantic comedy ‘Nakhrewaalii’ aims to combine humour and emotion with a fresh perspective on social norms, gender expectations and the complexities of modern relationships.
The makers recently unveiled the film’s trailer, offering a glimpse into a light-hearted story that examines how men perceive love, the preferential treatment they believe women receive, and the double standards they apply when choosing a romantic partner versus someone they wish to marry.
Speaking about the film, Rai said the team wanted to deliver an entertaining story while encouraging audiences to reflect on familiar social attitudes.
“‘Nakhrewaalii’ is a rom-com that brings together humour, heart and a fresh perspective on social notions. We’ve always believed in telling rooted stories that entertain while offering something new for audiences to engage with,” he said.
“With its quirky characters, light-hearted storytelling and a thought-provoking undertone, ‘Nakhrewaalii’ aims to strike a balance between laughter and a larger conversation, without losing its sense of fun,” the filmmaker-producer added.
The film stars Ansh Duggal and Pragati Srivastava in the lead roles and is directed by Rahul Shanklya, marking his directorial debut. It is produced by Jio Studios and Colour Yellow, the production banner led by Rai and Himanshu Sharma.
Built around a playful reversal of conventional romantic dynamics, the film explores the idea that winning the heart of a beloved may require a man to embrace a role traditionally associated with a woman. Its narrative combines romantic comedy with broader themes of gender equality, women’s safety and social conditioning.
Written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, ‘Nakhrewaalii’ seeks to use its unconventional premise to examine expectations surrounding men and women in relationships while retaining the humour and emotional appeal of a mainstream romantic entertainer.
The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 30, 2026.
