Washington, October 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US Vice President JD Vance has invoked his Indian-American wife, Usha Vance, in a personal attack on Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, accusing him of making racially charged remarks about interracial relationships during a Republican campaign rally in Michigan.

Speaking in Monroe while campaigning for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, Vance alleged that El-Sayed had suggested white Americans were incapable of forming genuine relationships with people of other races. He used the accusation to challenge the Democrat’s views on race, patriotism and American identity.

Vance cited his own family history, recalling the role his grandfather played in raising him during a difficult childhood in Ohio. He alleged that El-Sayed’s remarks implied his grandfather could not genuinely love Usha because he was white and she was not.

“He was incapable and he said this, go and look it up, that my papa was incapable of loving my darling wife and our amazing second Lady for the simple fact that he was white and she is not,” Vance said.

The Vice President also pointed to El-Sayed’s family background, alleging that the candidate had been raised partly by white step-grandfathers. Vance questioned whether the Democrat’s public comments reflected what he said privately.

Vance further accused El-Sayed of portraying the United States as fundamentally racist and challenged his account of his background. He alleged that the Michigan-born candidate had described himself as an immigrant from North Africa and claimed Egyptian citizenship.

The remarks formed part of a broader, sharply partisan speech touching on immigration, public safety, foreign conflicts and the November 3 midterm elections. Vance contrasted El-Sayed’s alleged views with his grandfather’s decades of work in Ohio’s steel industry, highlighting the contributions of factory workers to America’s industrial growth and middle class.

Usha Vance became the first Indian-American Second Lady when her husband assumed the vice presidency in January 2025. Her parents immigrated to the United States from India. A lawyer by training, she has frequently accompanied her husband at major public events.

Vance has previously spoken about his working-class upbringing and the influence of his grandparents, experiences he also chronicled in his memoir Hillbilly Elegy.
