Mumbai, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Stand-up comedians Harsh Gujral and Madhur Virali have been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for questioning on October 19 over the alleged use of vulgar and objectionable remarks in their comedy performances.

According to an official, the Cyber Cell initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint from a woman. Both comedians have been asked to appear before the agency for questioning.

Gujral, originally from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is known for his observational humour, energetic stage presence and spontaneous interactions with audiences. He rose to prominence through live performances and viral YouTube clips, with his conversational style and quick comebacks helping him build a following.

His comedy often draws on everyday Indian experiences, family dynamics, relationships, regional stereotypes and cultural quirks. His signature show, Jo Bolta Hai, Wohi Hota Hai, helped establish him as a prominent name on India’s stand-up circuit. He has also expanded into mainstream entertainment, appearing on reality television shows such as The Traitors and Khatron Ke Khiladi 15.

Virali, an IIT Delhi alumnus, is known for his dark humour, sharp storytelling and willingness to explore uncomfortable subjects. His comedy sets, including The IIT Dream, draw on student life, relationships, personal setbacks and everyday experiences.

Maharashtra Cyber’s Scrutiny of Online Content

The summons come amid a broader crackdown by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on allegedly objectionable content shared by digital creators.

In February 2025, controversial remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent triggered widespread criticism and legal scrutiny. In the aftermath, Gujral removed episodes of his dark-humour show The Escape Room from YouTube.

In June 2026, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell registered FIRs against several creators, including stand-up comedian Pranit More, over the alleged dissemination of obscene content through social media platforms.

The agency’s approach to online content also featured an outreach initiative in August 2026, when creators, including Raina, participated in an official Maharashtra Cyber awareness event aimed at curbing online scams.

Raina subsequently secured a Netflix release for the second season of India’s Got Latent, which returned in a more sanitised format, according to the information provided.

The questioning of Gujral and Virali is scheduled for October 19 as the investigation into the complaint proceeds.
