Ranveer Brar Says Life in Professional Kitchens Taught Him to Handle Pressure

Celebrity chef and actor Ranveer Brar says working in professional kitchens has taught him to remain calm under pressure, explaining that chefs routinely operate in high-stress environments where composure is essential to getting the job done.

Brar, who is receiving a positive response to his quiz show Yess Chef, shared his perspective during an interaction with IANS in Mumbai’s Andheri West area as part of the show’s promotions.

Drawing on his experience in the kitchen and his appearance on The Traitors, Brar said people were sometimes surprised by his ability to stay calm even when others became emotional.

“As chefs, we get used to it. Our environment is a pressure cooker environment,” he said, explaining that hundreds of cooks may be working simultaneously in a busy kitchen. If everyone starts rushing around in panic, he observed, the work would suffer.

Brar added that learning to recognise what lies beyond one’s control is another important part of managing stress. According to him, accepting those limits can help ease the pressure people place on themselves.

Recalling advice from his Ustaad (mentor), Brar said food preparation is fundamentally about working with the elements rather than trying to dominate them.

“My Ustad ji basically said that fundamentally, food is like making fire, you just help,” he said, adding that people often create unnecessary stress when they make themselves or their expectations too important.

“The biggest pressure is the pressure of expectations,” he said, explaining that keeping one’s ego and expectations in check can make difficult situations easier to handle.

Brar has also spoken about the importance of food safety and freshness at home. He previously advised consumers to shop at local vegetable markets, saying that the popularity of quick-delivery apps had changed traditional shopping habits.

He believes visiting local markets helps people appreciate fresh produce and make more informed choices about the food they bring into their kitchens.
