American singer Mary Millben has alleged that billionaire George Soros and his network are behind protests in India, escalating her public criticism of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke. Millben offered no evidence to substantiate her claims.
In a video message addressed to young Indians, Millben responded to a question about who was funding the demonstrations, alleging that the same individuals or groups in the United States were financing protests across countries, particularly where conservative leaders were in power.
“The name is George Soros and that whole machine of people are constantly funding a lot of these protests and chaos that’s breaking out across the world,” she said.
Millben also claimed that Dipke had posted on social media that Soros was funding him to organise activities in India. She did not provide supporting material for the allegation.
The video followed Millben’s posts on X on Wednesday, in which she alleged that the CJP was receiving money from “select donors” in the United States.
Addressing Dipke directly, Millben urged him to use his ability to mobilise people and communicate his views through constructive engagement. She suggested that he meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other government leaders to present his concerns, arguing that protests without proposed solutions would have limited impact.
Millben also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him and Dipke of failing to promote cooperation with the government or national unity. She described the protests as lacking substance, while calling for peaceful demonstrations.
Drawing comparisons with political movements in the United States, Millben referred to Antifa, Black Lives Matter and protests over the removal of monuments. She contrasted these movements with the approach of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., whom she praised for peaceful protests that helped advance civil rights legislation.
Millben described Modi as one of the world’s leading leaders, citing his years in public office and tenure as Prime Minister. She also rejected allegations of electoral fraud and defended the popular support enjoyed by the government.
The CJP and opposition parties have been protesting in Delhi, demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of electoral roll tampering and concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The allegations surrounding electoral irregularities and the claims about protest funding remain contested.
Millben said she hoped to visit India to encourage young people to use their voices peacefully, calling for a counter-movement centred on unity rather than confrontation.
Known for her patriotic performances, Millben sang India’s national anthem at an event during Modi’s 2023 visit to the United States.
