Quetta, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a human rights group, on Thursday strongly condemned Pakistani authorities over what it described as the forced displacement of thousands of families across Balochistan, alleging that people were being deprived of their ancestral homes, livelihoods and security.

In a statement, the BYC said thousands of families had been forced to leave their homes over the past several months, with displacement reported in several areas, including Zehri, Sarawan, Kaland, Jiwani, Noshki, Chagai, Kharan, Mand, Dasht, Sani Shoran, Mangchar, Mastung and Mashkay. It added that notices directing residents to vacate had also been issued in other areas.

“For the past several months, thousands of families have been forcibly displaced from various areas of Balochistan,” the committee said, warning that the list of affected settlements was growing.

The BYC alleged that residents were being handed notices that compelled them to abandon homes and livelihoods built over generations, leaving many facing uncertain futures in temporary shelters or makeshift settlements.

“Local people are handed a piece of paper and stripped of the life they built over years of toil, forced to accept the identity of a migrant on their own land for the rest of their lives,” the statement said.

According to the committee, many displaced people were continuing to live a nomadic existence in rest houses at Koh-e-Murad in Kech district, while others had sought shelter in the homes of relatives.

The organisation said the impact extended beyond the loss of residential property, alleging that coastal fishermen had been cut off from the sea, farmers from their fields, and herders from their livestock and grazing grounds. It added that traditional skills and livelihoods developed over generations had been disrupted.

“Whoever leaves their home does not merely leave walls behind — they leave their history, their memories, and their identity,” the BYC said, describing the displacement as a threat to the cultural and social ties connecting communities to their ancestral land.

The Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) also condemned the alleged destruction of ancestral settlements and forced displacement, saying that the loss of land and livelihoods threatened the cultural identity, dignity and history of affected communities.

“Burning homes, bulldozing ancestral settlements, cutting down orchards and trees, and displacing people from their lands is not merely the destruction of buildings and villages, but is tantamount to erasing generations of memories, cultural identity, human dignity, and the bonds tied to the earth,” the BVJ said.

The organisation argued that such actions affected not only the present circumstances of displaced families but also their historical ties and hopes for future generations.

The BVJ called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to take immediate notice of the alleged forced displacements and destruction of homes in Balochistan. It urged them to help protect the rights of affected residents and take effective measures to halt what it described as a humanitarian tragedy.

The allegations and accounts of displacement were presented by the two rights organisations in their statements.
