Singer, actress and producer Andrea Jeremiah has decided to produce only films based on scripts she writes herself, saying she will return to production once her upcoming screenplays are ready.
Andrea, who made her debut as a producer with director Vikarnan Ashok’s Tamil film Mask, starring Kavin, shared her plans in an exclusive interview with IANS.
Asked about her upcoming projects as a producer, Andrea said she was working on a couple of scripts and would take up production again only when they were ready to go on floors.
“So, henceforth, I’m only going to be producing films that I write. So, working on a couple of scripts. And, when they’re ready to go, then I’ll be a producer again. Not until then,” she said.
In Mask, Andrea took on two responsibilities, producing the film and playing its antagonist. When announcing her move into production, she had described the project as their “baby” and sought good wishes for the venture.
Meanwhile, Andrea is preparing for a new role as one of the three judges on Tamil Idol, which marks the Tamil-language debut of the globally recognised Indian Idol franchise.
Calling it her first stint as a judge, she said she was approaching the experience with a fresh and open mind. She emphasised that music remained her foremost identity, describing it as the greatest thing about life and a source of strength through both good and difficult times.
Andrea said identifying promising singers and potentially influencing their journeys was a special responsibility. She is also looking forward to sharing the judging panel with singers Benny Dayal and Karthik, whom she considers friends.
“It’s nice to be an actress. It’s a boss vibe to be a producer. But music is my happy place,” she said.
Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will serve as the show’s super mentor. Tamil Idol will air on Sony Vizha and stream on SonyLIV during weekends. The season will comprise 40 episodes, each running for 90 minutes.
