Chandigarh, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has welcomed the Central Government’s initiative to find a permanent solution to the persistent problem of waterlogging and waterlogged saline land in Fazilka district, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on behalf of the state’s farming community.

Dhillon said the formation of a six-member expert committee under the leadership of the Director of ICAR-CSSRI, Karnal, by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was an important step towards addressing the problem and providing lasting relief to affected farmers.

The committee will conduct a ground-level assessment of the affected areas and recommend scientifically sound solutions to restore agricultural land damaged by waterlogging and make it suitable for cultivation again.

He said farmers in Fazilka and adjoining areas suffer substantial losses every year because of waterlogging. The expert committee’s initiative, he added, would help identify the root causes of the problem and develop effective, long-term solutions.

The Punjab BJP said the Central Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remained committed to farmers’ welfare, strengthening the agricultural sector and increasing farmers’ incomes.

The party described the initiative as an important step towards developing scientific and sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by Punjab’s farming community, with the aim of restoring affected land and improving agricultural prospects in the region.
