Mumbai, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Bollywood actor Imran Khan is preparing to approach the Bombay High Court to challenge a notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) directing him to leave India by October 28, according to information available in the matter.

The notice was issued following his alleged participation in a protest at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The FRRO reportedly stated that Khan had allegedly violated the Foreigners Act by participating in the demonstration despite not being an Indian citizen and holding Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status.

Khan is considering filing a writ petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the notice. He has engaged MZM Legal LLP to represent him. Zulfiqar Memon, managing partner of the law firm, was approached for comment but declined to comment at this stage.

The actor received the notice days after participating in the October 10 protest. According to the information provided, action was initiated against him under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Khan was also detained by police on October 10 in connection with the demonstration.

The case has drawn attention following a separate move by BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya, who approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities on October 13, seeking the issuance of a Look Out Circular (LOC) against the actor.

Somaiya has also requested that Khan be prevented from leaving the country until an inquiry into his complaint and the investigation into a Mumbai police case are completed.

In a letter dated October 13 to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Somaiya urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue directions restricting Khan’s overseas travel under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. He also asked the Bureau of Immigration to issue an LOC against the actor and alert the police if he attempted to leave India.

The developments follow the October 10 demonstration at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan, where protesters demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Khan’s proposed legal challenge is expected to contest the FRRO notice directing him to leave the country by October 28.
