Central Park in Connaught Place will remain closed on October 16 and 17, while prohibitory orders are in force in and around the area, as the Delhi Police cautioned against unauthorised gatherings linked to a call for a Tiranga protest on Friday evening.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Neha Yadav said in a video message that the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had appealed to their workers, supporters and members of the public to assemble at Central Park at 5 pm, carrying the national flag.
The police have urged people not to participate in any gathering that violates prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace, protect lives and safeguard public and private property.
Yadav warned that appropriate legal action would be taken against those found violating the orders. The police also said they were taking steps to prevent disruptions to traders and shopkeepers operating in Connaught Place, particularly during the festive season.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has informed the police that Central Park would remain closed for administrative reasons on both days and requested security arrangements to prevent unauthorised entry.
According to Yadav, trade and market associations in and around Connaught Place have sought protection for their shops and establishments, expressing concern that disruptive activities and unlawful assemblies could affect business during the festive period.
The police said they may consider facilitating a designated location for a limited group of people to carry the national flag and sing the national anthem, provided the prescribed guidelines are followed and the Tricolour and anthem are treated with due respect and decorum.
The Delhi High Court has taken note of concerns about possible disruption to commercial activity in the area, Yadav said, adding that the police had assured suitable measures to address them.
The Delhi Police reiterated its appeal for people to maintain peace and comply with the prohibitory orders.
