Imphal, October 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A Kuki tribal woman was killed and two civilians went missing after suspected militants ambushed two motorcycles carrying four people in Manipur’s Kamjong district on Thursday evening, officials said.

The victims were travelling towards Phaikoh to purchase essential commodities when the attack took place between Phaikoh and Molvailup, a police official said, citing information from local villagers.

The woman, identified as Hatneimkim Haokip, died at the spot, while her husband escaped unharmed. The whereabouts of the two other civilians remain unknown.

Security personnel, assisted by villagers, have launched search operations to locate the missing persons and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The killing drew strong condemnation from several organisations, including the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), which called for urgent action to protect civilians and bring those responsible to justice.

In a statement, KIM Secretary for Information and Publicity Janghaolun Haokip accused the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) of carrying out the ambush. The allegation had not been independently confirmed by the authorities in the available account.

Haokip described the killing as a grave violation of humanitarian principles and alleged that vulnerable civilians, particularly women and children, had repeatedly been targeted.

The KIM also blamed the state and Central governments for what it described as a deterioration in law and order, accusing the authorities of failing to take decisive action against armed groups.

The organisation demanded a comprehensive security operation to identify and apprehend those responsible for Hatneimkim Haokip’s killing and trace the two missing civilians. It said assurances alone were no longer sufficient and called for concrete measures to safeguard residents.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the KIM said it stood in solidarity with them. It also warned that failure to locate the missing persons, bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure civilian protection could trigger public unrest and further heighten tensions.
