Two Assam Police Personnel Killed as Colleague Allegedly Opens Fire With AK-47 at Outpost

Two Assam Police personnel were killed and two others injured after a colleague allegedly opened fire with an AK-47 rifle at a police outpost in Kamrup district, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place late Wednesday night at Gamerimura Police Outpost under Boko Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Fazrul Ali and Indrajit Bora, who was serving as the officer-in-charge of the Gamerimura outpost.

According to preliminary information, the firing was allegedly carried out by a police personnel identified as Chiranjeev Choudhury. The circumstances that led to the shooting and the motive behind it remain unclear.

Two other police personnel were hit by bullets and sustained injuries. They were taken to a medical facility for treatment, while details about their current condition were awaited.

The shooting reportedly occurred inside the premises of the Gamerimura Police Outpost. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether an altercation or any other incident preceded the firing.

Senior police officials are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the use of the service weapon, examine statements from personnel present at the outpost and review other available evidence to establish the sequence of events.
