Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday laid the foundation stone for an ultra-modern 500-seat auditorium at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar School of Eminence, Nangal, as part of ₹19 crore worth of infrastructure projects launched at the school.
The auditorium will be constructed at a cost of ₹11 crore and is aimed at meeting a long-pending demand of Nangal residents for a modern venue for cultural events, seminars and other programmes.
At the same time, Bains also kick-started construction of a new academic block at a cost of ₹8 crore. The block will comprise seven ultra-modern laboratories and seven new rooms, further strengthening the school’s infrastructure and facilities for practical learning.
Speaking on the occasion, Bains said Nangal had so far lacked a modern auditorium where residents, educational institutions and other organisations could organise events and programmes.
He said the auditorium, named after Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, would benefit both the School of Eminence and the wider community. The 500-seat facility would also provide students with a larger platform to showcase their talent through cultural and other programmes, he added.
The Education Minister said the new academic block was another step towards providing students with facilities suited to modern education. The seven laboratories and seven additional rooms would support practical learning alongside classroom education, he said.
Bains said the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government was working to equip government schools with modern infrastructure and provide quality education to students. Schools of Eminence, he said, are part of this vision, offering facilities for academics, sports, cultural activities and laboratory-based learning.
He further said several major development projects had been initiated in Nangal in recent times and that the pace of development works would be accelerated to address the city’s basic infrastructure needs.
“Making Nangal a better and more beautiful city equipped with modern facilities is my top priority,” Bains said.
