Patiala Police have arrested two accused in connection with the student unrest at Chitkara University in Rajpura during the intervening night of September 25 and 26, 2026, for allegedly provoking students by spreading misleading rumours through social media.
According to a Patiala Police spokesperson, the arrested accused have been identified as Himanshu, a resident of Nangal, and Aryan, a resident of Ambala.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered at Banur Police Station, and a wide-ranging investigation was launched to identify those involved. Police examined social media activity and allegedly fake messages circulated across various platforms by students and other individuals, the spokesperson said.
During the investigation, police found that the two accused had allegedly provoked and instigated students through various social media groups by circulating and propagating misleading messages, which contributed to the escalation of the situation on the university campus.
A total of two accused have been arrested, while 10 others have been named in the FIR. Police teams have been dispatched to various locations to apprehend the remaining accused.
Further investigation is underway to identify others allegedly involved in spreading misinformation, instigating students, damaging public property and obstructing public servants in the discharge of their official duties. Police are also working to establish the individual roles of those involved.
Patiala Police said they remain committed to maintaining peace and public order.
