Fatehgarh Sahib, October 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) Senior Vice President Parminder Singh Dhindsa participated in the two-day Bandi Singhs Release March launched by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on Thursday, calling for the release of Sikh prisoners who, he said, continue to remain incarcerated despite having served lengthy sentences.
Addressing reporters during the march, Dhindsa alleged that the country’s legal system operated differently for Sikhs compared to other citizens. Citing the release of those convicted of assassinating former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he questioned why Sikh prisoners remained behind bars even after serving sentences that, according to him, were twice the duration of their original terms.
He also expressed concern that the parole of these prisoners was not being considered, describing parole as a right to which every prisoner should be entitled.
Dhindsa said the release of the Bandi Singhs was a major Panthic issue on which the Sikh community stood united. He stressed the need for collective efforts to raise awareness about the issue and seek the release of the prisoners.
The two-day march, held under the aegis of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and led by the Panj Piaras, commenced at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on October 2 and is scheduled to conclude on October 3 at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
A large number of devotees participated in the march, along with representatives of Sikh organisations, political parties, farmers’ unions and human rights groups.
Dhindsa said the march aimed to create public awareness about the demand for the release of the Bandi Singhs and build pressure on the government to address the issue, prevent further alleged human rights violations and release the prisoners.
At the commencement of the march, Qaumi Insaaf Morcha leaders were joined by Dhindsa and several other leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) and Sikh organisations.
Those present included Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra of Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit), Youth President Gurjit Singh Talwandi, Harvel Singh Madhopur, Randhir Singh Rakhra, Mandeep Singh Tarkhanmajra, Jaswant Singh Pudain, Bhupinder Singh Sekhupur, Advocate Ravinder Singh Shahpur, Tajinder Singh Pannu, Jagjit Singh Kohli, Avtar Singh Kaler, Baltej Singh Amloh, Ranbir Singh Punia, Charanjit Singh Mavi, Akashdeep Singh Naurangwal, Darbara Singh Randhawa, Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Harbans Singh Kandhola, Gurmeet Singh Makdona, Jagdeep Singh Sirthala, Tirlochan Singh Tochi and Master Charanjit Singh, among others.
