The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the dispatch of a 24-metric-tonne consignment of frozen food products from Sonipat, Haryana, to Canada, the Commerce Ministry said on Friday.
The Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO)-led shipment includes green peas, mixed vegetables, peas and carrots, sweet corn and samosas, among other frozen products.
Exported by Aterna Foods Producer Company Limited, the consignment comprises 2,295 boxes with a total shipment value of 35,140 Canadian dollars. The exporter received support from APEDA under its Financial Assistance Scheme, according to the ministry.
The shipment is aimed at expanding international market opportunities for Indian processed food products while connecting FPOs with overseas buyers.
The Commerce Ministry said the export also highlights the growing role of FPOs in developing export-oriented value chains and enabling farmers to access international markets. APEDA has been facilitating linkages between FPOs and exporters through initiatives focused on strengthening market access and creating export opportunities for farmer groups.
By connecting agricultural produce with processing facilities and international markets, the FPO-led model can help improve value realisation for producers and strengthen the participation of farmer groups in the export value chain.
Flagging off the consignment, APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev congratulated the exporter and other stakeholders. He said direct exports by FPOs could significantly enhance value realisation for producers and acknowledged NIFTEM’s contribution to the initiative.
Dev also expressed optimism about expanding exports of Indian processed food products to the Canadian market.
APEDA, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, continues to facilitate market linkages and export opportunities for Indian agricultural and processed food products while supporting the integration of farmer groups into global value chains.
