Amritsar, October 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday foiled an alleged infiltration attempt along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, shooting dead two Pakistani intruders, officials said.
The incident took place early in the day in the Border Outpost (BOP) Rajoke area of Tarn Taran.
According to sources, BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement near the international border and challenged the individuals attempting to enter Indian territory.
At least three people were reportedly moving towards the Indian border from the Chattanwala area on the Pakistani side. The BSF personnel challenged them and warned them not to proceed further. However, when they allegedly ignored the warnings and continued moving towards the Indian side, the troops opened fire.
Two intruders were killed in the firing, while a third managed to flee towards Pakistan, the sources said. The identities of the deceased are yet to be established.
The bodies have been handed over to the police for post-mortem examinations, while further proceedings are underway in coordination with the Punjab Police.
The incident highlights the vigilance maintained by security agencies against infiltration attempts along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab.
The development comes amid continued security concerns along Punjab’s 553-km-long international border with Pakistan, which has witnessed several infiltration and cross-border smuggling attempts in recent years. The BSF has successfully foiled several such attempts.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the Punjab Police dismantled two illegal arms and narcotics supply networks, arrested four accused and recovered 10 kg of heroin and 10 pistols.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers and involved in procuring illegal weapons and narcotics, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.
Two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered in Amritsar. Further investigations are underway to identify the full extent of the networks and establish their backward and forward linkages, Yadav added.
In an earlier related development, the Amritsar Rural Police had dismantled an illegal arms and narcotics supply network by arresting three people, including a woman, her husband and her brother.
The police had recovered 10.030 kg of heroin, two sophisticated assault rifles, an AK-47 and an AK-56, along with three magazines and 10 cartridges from their possession.
