Hyderabad, October 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
An alleged attempt by a passenger to open an aircraft’s emergency exit handle during boarding triggered a security alarm and caused a scare at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad early Friday, police said.
The incident occurred while passengers were boarding an IndiGo flight bound for Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, the passenger was initially seated in the ninth row but was moved to the second row, which was located near an emergency exit. While settling into the new seat, he allegedly touched the emergency exit handle, triggering the aircraft’s security sensor alarm.
Airline staff alerted authorities following the incident, after which the passenger was deboarded and handed over to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Police.
A case has been registered at the RGIA Police Station. During questioning, the passenger told police that he had unintentionally touched the emergency exit handle. Further investigation was underway.
The incident comes nearly two months after a similar case at Kochi airport. On August 6, a passenger allegedly damaged an emergency exit window panel and attempted to tamper with the emergency exit door while a Kuala Lumpur-Kochi Batik Air flight was preparing to land.
The passenger, identified as Jamsheer Athanikkal, was arrested and booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Aircraft Act and the Kerala Police Act.
The Hyderabad incident also comes amid heightened attention on aviation security following an alleged attack by a co-pilot on the captain of a flydubai flight operating from Dubai to Tel Aviv earlier this week.
The co-pilot was reportedly overpowered after the captain raised an alarm, while two flydubai pilots travelling as passengers assisted in landing the aircraft after it was diverted to Tabuk in northern Saudi Arabia.
