Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda has been named India’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games, following an impressive campaign in which she won three medals, including two gold and one silver.
The 27-year-old trap shooter emerged as one of India’s leading performers at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, playing a significant role in the country’s shooting campaign. She will carry the national flag at the closing ceremony scheduled to take place in Nagoya on Sunday, October 4.
Neeru’s medal-winning campaign began with a silver in the women’s trap team event, where she partnered with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. The Indian trio secured a combined score of 328 after three days of qualification, finishing behind gold medallists China, while Kuwait claimed the bronze.
She followed the team silver with a historic gold in the individual trap event, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold medal in the discipline.
Neeru topped the qualification round with a score of 118 before registering 28 hits in the final to set an Asian record and secure the gold medal.
She added another gold to her tally in the trap mixed team event, partnering with Kynan Chenai. The Indian pair overcame a difficult start to finish with 34 hits, breaking the previous Asian record of 33 set by Qatar earlier in 2026.
The mixed team victory completed a memorable two-day run for Neeru, who returned to competition less than 24 hours after winning her individual gold and secured another top finish.
Her three-medal haul has placed her among India’s prominent performers at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and earned her the responsibility of leading the Indian contingent at the closing ceremony.
The closing ceremony of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games is scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. The ceremony will take place between 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. IST.
