The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rashid Alvi over his remarks questioning the appointment of retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Alvi had questioned the appointment of the former Air Force officer and suggested that there could be a “hidden truth” behind the decision, linking Mishra’s selection to his alleged role in Operation Sindoor.
Reacting to the remarks, BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Alvi and the Congress of insulting the Indian Armed Forces and described the comments as evidence of what he called the party’s “Dimagi Naxal” mindset.
Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Trivedi said Alvi’s remarks had exposed what he described as the “true nature” of the Congress and alleged that questioning the armed forces had become part of the party’s political discourse.
Trivedi also targeted the Congress over its past positions on Lord Ram, Ayodhya and military operations, alleging that party leaders had previously questioned the existence of Lord Ram and the surgical strikes carried out by the armed forces.
He referred to an earlier controversial remark by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit about the then Army Chief and alleged that the party had repeatedly made statements disrespectful to the military.
The BJP spokesperson further accused Congress of adopting what he termed a “Dimagi Naxal” approach and said Alvi’s remarks were part of the same pattern.
Trivedi also criticised what he described as interpretations of historical invasions of India, saying that Mahmud Ghazni, Muhammad Ghori and Babur had targeted temples and idols. His comments were made in response to what he said were claims regarding the historical motives behind the invasions.
The BJP leader’s remarks came a day after the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust appointed Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra (retd) as its first CEO.
Mishra, who held senior positions during his military career, has been entrusted with responsibilities related to the administration and functioning of the Ram Temple. These include temple management, security, staff administration, devotee facilities, financial management and coordination among various departments and agencies.
The appointment has now triggered a political controversy following Alvi’s remarks linking the decision to Operation Sindoor, with the BJP strongly rejecting the Congress leader’s assertions.
