The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday apprehended a suspected Pakistani intruder along the International Border in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a BSF spokesperson, troops of the 44th Battalion apprehended the individual near Border Out Post (BOP) Sohan in the Kanachak sector.
The apprehended person was identified as Nazir Sadhir, son of Mohammad Nazir and a resident of Luni village in Pakistan’s Sialkot district.
Following his apprehension, Sadhir was taken into BSF custody. A Deputy Inspector General (DIG) also reached the spot and reviewed the situation.
The BSF is questioning the apprehended person to ascertain his identity, the circumstances surrounding his entry and the purpose of his presence along the border, besides gathering other relevant details.
The BSF guards the International Border in the Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir and is responsible for preventing infiltration, cross-border smuggling and drone activity originating from across the border.
Security agencies have been particularly alert to the use of drones by terror handlers based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which are used to drop consignments of arms, ammunition, cash and drugs across the border. These consignments are subsequently picked up by overground workers (OGWs) linked to terror outfits and passed on to terrorists, according to security agencies.
The BSF has been deploying hi-tech anti-drone technology to counter the threat along the International Border.
Jammu and Kashmir has a 241-km-long International Border and a 740-km-long Line of Control (LoC). The LoC runs through Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts in the Kashmir Valley, as well as Poonch, Rajouri and parts of Jammu district in the Jammu division.
