J&K: Joint Forces Bust Terror Hideout in Poonch, Recover IEDs and Ammunition

Jammu, August 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Security forces on Saturday busted a suspected terror hideout in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered improvised explosive devices, ammunition and other material during a joint search operation in the Surankote sector.

The operation was conducted in the Draba area on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. A joint team of the 16 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police and the 38th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) carried out the search.

The forces recovered one gamla-type IED, one gool-type IED, four small IEDs, a Motorola wireless set and seven AK-47 rounds. Further searches in the area were underway, officials said.

The latest recovery comes amid intensified counter-terror operations in Poonch. In recent operations, security forces have busted several suspected militant hideouts in forested areas, including Sawjian and Khanetar.

Those operations resulted in the recovery of hundreds of live machine-gun rounds, including Pika and general-purpose machine-gun ammunition, along with IEDs, hand grenades and AK-series rifles.

Security forces have also maintained heightened surveillance along the Line of Control (LoC). In sectors including Balakote and Mendhar, troops have recovered suspected smuggled narcotics as well as foreign-origin pistols allegedly dropped across the border.

In neighbouring Rajouri district, the Army, J&K Police SOG and CRPF have simultaneously intensified anti-terror operations. A major search operation was launched in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forests of the Manjakote sector following an encounter in the densely forested area.

Drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs were deployed to locate suspected foreign terrorists believed to be hiding in natural caves.

During a separate operation in the Chamrer forest area of Thanamandi, Rashtriya Rifles personnel recovered a ready-to-use IED, clothing and essential rations from another suspected hideout.

In the Islampur Bhanghai area of Thanamandi, security forces also recovered a concealed logistics cache containing survival material, blankets, gas stoves and food supplies allegedly intended to support terrorists in hiding.

Officials said the continued recoveries underline security forces’ efforts to dismantle terror infrastructure and disrupt logistical networks in the sensitive border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
