Actress Gauahar Khan has urged parents to stay informed about meningococcal meningitis in children and highlighted the importance of timely vaccination as a preventive measure.
In an awareness video shared on Instagram, the ‘Bigg Boss Season 7’ winner spoke about the concerns parents have regarding serious illnesses and encouraged them to consult paediatricians about meningococcal meningitis and vaccination.
“As parents, we do everything we can to protect the moments our children will cherish forever. That’s why awareness and timely vaccination matter. Meningococcal Meningitis can progress rapidly, but prevention through vaccination can help protect your child,” Gauahar wrote alongside the video.
She urged parents of children aged nine months and above to speak to their paediatricians about the disease and vaccination.
In the video, Gauahar described meningococcal meningitis as a serious illness that can affect the brain and spinal cord and said she learned about it during a consultation with her paediatrician. She emphasised that the disease can progress rapidly and stressed the importance of preventive healthcare.
Gauahar also said that while treating meningococcal meningitis can be challenging, vaccination can help in prevention. She noted that the vaccine has been used for decades and said it has been recommended in several countries.
“Humne bhi apne bachche ko vaccinate karwa diya hai,” she said, encouraging other parents to discuss vaccination options with their paediatricians.
“Because while some moments are worth preserving, others are worth preventing,” Gauahar said, reiterating her message that parents should consider timely vaccination.
Gauahar and her husband, Zaid Darbar, are parents to two sons. Their elder son, Zehaan, was born on May 10, 2023, while their younger son, Farwaan, was born on September 1, 2025.
