US Midterms: Indian American Candidates Make Final Appeals on Crime, Costs, Trump and Hate

Washington, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Indian American candidates across the United States made contrasting final pitches on the eve of Tuesday’s midterm elections, with Republican contenders emphasising crime, public safety and the cost of living, while Democrats urged voters to check President Donald Trump’s power and oppose rising hate.

In Ohio, Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy concluded his statewide campaign with a stop in Cleveland, promising quick property tax cuts, lower electricity bills through increased energy production and a tougher approach to crime.

“Ohioans first, that’s my sole responsibility as Governor,” he wrote on X after an earlier campaign stop in Toledo, framing his final appeal around local concerns rather than party divisions.

In New York, Republican Saritha Komatireddy, who is challenging Attorney General Letitia James, completed a campaign tour covering Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Binghamton before making a final stop on Long Island.

Accusing James of failing to address crime, homelessness and fraud, Komatireddy said she represented the change New Yorkers were seeking. The daughter of Indian immigrants, she also invoked the promise of the American Dream, saying people come to the country hoping that hard work will allow them to provide for their families.

Democratic candidates, meanwhile, placed greater emphasis on national politics and Trump’s leadership.

Virginia Congressman Suhas Subramanyam said voters would elect a Congress that worked for the people rather than the President.

California Congressman Ro Khanna used the final campaign weekend to highlight his opposition to the US war in Iran, arguing that Democrats could vote to eliminate funding for the conflict. He also referred to Trump’s repeated criticism of him.

In Texas, Democratic state House candidate Pooja Sethi made opposition to anti-Indian hate a central part of her closing message. “We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. Hate has no home in Texas,” she posted on X.

Florida Democrat Pia Dandiya, whose campaign in the 22nd Congressional District has attracted substantial outside spending, urged supporters to make a final push, saying there was one day left to fight for a future worthy of their children.

The contrasting appeals reflect the broader national campaign, with Republicans focusing on crime and household expenses, while Democrats have sought to mobilise voters around Trump’s presidency, the Iran conflict and affordability.
