The BJP on Sunday alleged a growing rift between Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, claiming that the former did not allow his sister to address the INDIA bloc rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Rahul Gandhi of attempting to sideline Priyanka, saying the alleged differences between the siblings had become visible.
In a video message posted on X, Bhandari claimed that Priyanka had also appeared unhappy during a Congress-organised mock Parliament event a day earlier, where she was seen sitting silently in the second row.
“In a combined Opposition rally at Ramlila ground, Rahul Gandhi did not let Priyanka Vadra speak,” Bhandari wrote, arguing that the alleged incidents on two consecutive days pointed to a tussle between the two leaders.
The BJP’s remarks came amid a broader attack on Rahul Gandhi by senior party leaders following the INDIA bloc rally.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier mocked Rahul Gandhi’s prime ministerial ambitions, saying he could become Prime Minister only in a “Mock Parliament” and not in the real one. Shah was referring to the Congress-led mock impeachment proceedings against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Shah also accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly facing electoral defeats and said the aspiration of his mother, Sonia Gandhi, to see him become Prime Minister had remained unfulfilled.
Addressing an event in Chandigarh, the Home Minister further criticised the Congress for holding its rally in Delhi on November 1, the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
He accused the Congress of orchestrating the massacre of Sikhs in Delhi and said holding a rally on the day was insensitive towards the families of those killed. These allegations were part of Shah’s political attack on the Congress.
The BJP’s claims about differences between Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were not accompanied by any response from the Congress in the material provided.
