SC Delhi produced a remarkable late comeback, scoring three times in the final 20 minutes to defeat former champions Mumbai City FC 3-2 in an Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 fixture at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.
Trailing 0-2 at half-time, the visitors turned the match around through Carlos Fortes (73rd minute), Akshat Mehra (90+2) and Juan Pena (90+4). Muhammad Ajsal (6th) and Zothanpuia (27th) had put Mumbai City in control with first-half goals.
Mumbai made an aggressive start and took the lead through Ajsal, who finished after combining with Noufal and capitalising on a defensive error by Lamgoulen Hangshing. The goal was Mumbai City’s first from open play this season.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when Noufal broke down the left and delivered a cross for Zothanpuia to finish past the goalkeeper.
SC Delhi came close to reducing the deficit before the break, but Mohammad Azhar’s curling effort in the 35th minute struck the crossbar.
The visitors made two changes at half-time and continued searching for a way back into the contest. Their breakthrough arrived in the 73rd minute when Mumbai goalkeeper TP Rehenesh spilled a corner. Ashutosh Mehta collected the loose ball and set up Fortes for a close-range finish.
SC Delhi’s late surge gathered momentum in stoppage time. Substitute Mehra, introduced in the 88th minute, received a pass from Richard Ndayishimaye and sent a curling effort towards goal. Rehenesh could only push the ball into his own net, bringing the scores level at 2-2.
Just two minutes later, Pena completed the turnaround with a superb individual effort. He surged forward, evaded two Mumbai City defenders and calmly slotted the ball home to secure all three points for SC Delhi.
The result capped a dramatic recovery after Mumbai City had appeared firmly in control for much of the contest.
