Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan made his customary Sunday appearance outside his Mumbai residence Jalsa under heightened security, greeting fans from behind a transparent bulletproof shield installed on an elevated platform.
His son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, accompanied him during the brief appearance. Several security personnel were deployed around the veteran actor as he waved to admirers gathered outside the residence.
Security arrangements around Bachchan have reportedly been strengthened following a bomb threat email received by Mumbai Police on October 23. The email was reportedly sent to a school in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) area, prompting an investigation.
The message referred to Bachchan’s residence, Jalsa, and mentioned October 31 and November 27 as dates for alleged attacks. It also named singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh in connection with a purported bomb attack at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse on November 27, although the threat was not explicitly directed at him.
The email reportedly contained pro-Khalistan slogans and attributed the threats to a group identifying itself as the “Khalistan National Army”. The allegations remain part of the police investigation.
Separately, Bachchan recently indicated that he needed additional rest as part of his recovery. In a post on his Tumblr blog, he said doctors had advised him to take a break from his usual online activities and that he would remain less active on social media for some time.
“Yet more rest needed .. adjusting .. thinking and wondering .. the human body and its uniqueness,” he wrote.
On the professional front, Bachchan continues to host the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
