UNITED SIKHS has commemorated the 42nd anniversary of the November 1984 anti-Sikh massacres, remembering the victims and expressing solidarity with survivors and families affected by the violence.

In a statement, the organisation said thousands of Sikh families continue to bear the pain of lost loved ones and lives permanently altered by the events of November 1984, which involved targeted killings of Sikhs, widespread displacement, and the destruction of homes and gurdwaras.

It said the violence had also left intergenerational trauma that continues to affect survivors and their descendants.

Emphasising the importance of remembrance, UNITED SIKHS said commemorating the victims was also about recognising the dignity of survivors and ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated.

The organisation reiterated its commitment to justice, human rights and the protection of all communities, while stressing that meaningful reconciliation requires truth and accountability.

It noted that many survivors had spent decades seeking justice, adding that their resilience reflected the enduring strength of the human spirit.

UNITED SIKHS called upon governments, educational institutions, civil society organisations and human rights groups to continue documenting survivors’ testimonies and promote informed dialogue about the lessons of November 1984.

It also urged the international community to remain vigilant against hatred, discrimination and violence targeting any religious or ethnic group, maintaining that justice and the protection of human rights must remain universal principles beyond borders and political considerations.

Reaffirming its commitment to supporting survivors and advocating for human rights, the organisation said it would continue working towards a future based on equality, accountability and respect for human dignity.

“Never Forget. Never Again,” the statement said.
