Actress Alia Bhatt once surprised filmmaker and television host Karan Johar by revealing that she began experiencing young romance as early as Class 6, during her first appearance on the popular chat show Koffee With Karan in 2013.
Alia appeared on the episode alongside her Student of the Year co-stars Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. During the conversation, Johar brought up Varun’s claim that Alia had several boyfriends while growing up.
Disagreeing with the description of a long list of relationships, Alia said she had been in relationships that lasted around two years each.
When Johar asked whether she had started dating at the age of 10, Alia clarified that her experience in Class 6 was not really dating.
“I started dating in 6th standard,” she said, explaining that it involved nothing more than exchanging smiles with a boy across the classroom.
Varun jokingly described the childhood romance as “half-base”, but Alia dismissed the suggestion and said her first actual boyfriend was in Class 10.
She recalled that the relationship lasted two years and described him as her first high-school love.
Johar also asked whether the relationship had ended because she wanted to pursue acting. Alia corrected him, saying, “No, he dropped me.”
Alia made her acting debut with Student of the Year in 2012. She later married actor Ranbir Kapoor on April 14, 2022, in an intimate ceremony. The couple welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor, in November that year.
